You will embark on an unforgettable 7-day Rwanda safari filled with remarkable landscapes and diverse wildlife. You will enjoy close encounters with mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, and golden monkeys in the lush forests and Big Five in Akagera National Park. You’ll explore Rwanda’s beauty from misty mountains to open savannahs. This tour starts in Kigali and ends in Kigali.
Day1: Kigali – Akagera National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide/driver, who will give a short briefing about the safari. Then, you will proceed to Akagera National Park, arriving in the evening. You will then check into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Ruzizi Tented Lodge. Meal Plan: F/B
Day2: Game Drive and Boat Ride
You’ll have a hearty breakfast and head to the park for a morning game drive offering you an opportunity to view a variety of wild animals such as elephants, buffaloes, lions, Masai giraffes, gazelles, impala, baboons, Oribi, Butchel’s zebra, Topi, bush baby, leopard and bushbuck among others. Retire back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will head out for a boat trip along Lake Ihema, where you will have a closer look at water animals like hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. You’ll return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast, you will embark your jeep to Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Along the way, you’ll dive into Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage with a stop at the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, where traditional royal life comes to life, and the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, showcasing the country’s diverse history and traditions. Day4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Early breakfast and after head to the park headquarters for a short briefing before starting your unforgettable chimpanzee trekking adventure through the lush Nyungwe Forest. You’ll witness these energetic primates in their natural habitat as they swing through the trees within one hour. After the trek, you’ll return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy the breathtaking canopy walk, offering panoramic views of the forest, followed by an exciting zip-lining experience that adds a touch of adventure to your day. Retire back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After a hearty breakfast, you will begin your scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a cultural and sensory experience with stops at tea and coffee plantations. You’ll learn about Rwanda’s enormous agriculture while taking in the beautiful landscapes. You will arrive near the park in the afternoon and settle into your lodge, surrounded by the peaceful charm of the Virunga Mountains. Dinner and overnight stay at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. Day6: Gorilla Trekking
After breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on a truly magical experience through the forest to encounter the gentle and majestic mountain gorillas in their natural home. Enjoy the one hour, after return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will explore the renowned Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a world-class center dedicated to conservation and education. Retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day7: Golden Monkey – Kigali
After a delightful breakfast, you will embark the safari jeep back to Kigali for your final night in Rwanda or transfer directly to the airport, depending on your flight schedule.
